The Threesome Sessions originated at the helm of performing at the NYC Polyamory Festival in Central Park in 2009. Mara Rosenbloom and Brittany Anjou showcase their intricate musicality and friendship in this collaboration, reflective of their love for music.

Bewaa is a tradition of Ghanaian xylophone music pedagogically taught by master xylophonist Bernard Woma at the Dagara Music Center in Medie, Ghana. Traditional Ghanaian xylophone is performed with two xylophones and a percussionist, often accompanied by a dance and drum troupe during social gatherings and performances. The music is usually taught on one xylophone, with the student opposite the master, who teaches the patterns backwards. The student must learn all patterns facing forward, before attempting to perform them on the opposite side of the gyil.

Pianists Brittany Anjou and Mara Rosenbloom approach bewaa in honor of the oral tradition, sitting opposite each other before their instruments. The Threesome Sessions took shape in Brittany's apartment in 2009, with each musician on nordelectro keyboard, and Brittany additionally on gyil. The tradition of the duo seating arrangement is preserved, while maintaining three instruments and timbres; hence, the Threesome Sessions.
